Leapin’ Lizards! The irrepressible comic strip heroine takes center stage in one of the world’s best-loved musicals. ​With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan Annie charms everyone’s hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. She is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City Orphanage that is run by the cruel, embittered Miss Hannigan. With the help of the other girls in the Orphanage, Annie escapes to the wondrous world of NYC. In adventure after fun-filled adventure, Annie foils Miss Hannigan’s evil machinations… and even befriends President Franklin Delano Roosevelt! She finds a new home and family in billionaire, Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary, Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy.

First time performers and experienced performers. We understand not everyone can sing or dance, we accept all skill levels and work with you to find a way to make you comfortable and shine on stage.

If you don’t want to be on stage but still would like to be involved, we have roles you can participate backstage or with lights and sound.  

​Additionally, we are offering three Junior Production Roles for those who would like to shadow/assist the Director, Choreographer, and Music Director.

Annie
A street-wise orphan; she is eventually taken in by Oliver Warbucks. Spunky, friendly, big-voiced.

Warbucks
A successful businessman with a warm heart. Rich, stiff-collared, bullish.

Grace Farrell
Faithful secretary to Mr. Oliver Warbucks. Poised, sweet, gentle.

Orphans
The other boys and girls in the orphanage with Annie. These children and teens are gritty, neglected and vulnerable, yet basically honest and potentially loveable. Includes Molly, Kate, Tessie, Pepper, July, and Duffy.

Servants
The servants at the Warbucks mansion. Includes Drake, Mrs. Pugh, Mrs. Greer, Cecille, and Annette.

Miss Hannigan
The orphanage matron who hates children but is fond of liquor. Very disillusioned, bitter, and cold.

Rooster
Miss Hannigan’s no-good brother looking for a quick buck. A sleazy, slick con man.

Lily
Rooster’s girlfriend, who is also out for a quick buck. She is considered to be a floozy and bimbo.

Bert Healy
The ultimate radio personality. He helps Annie by broadcasting about the search for her birth parents.

Roosevelt
The 32nd President of the United States. A Democrat and friend of Warbucks.

Ensemble

Auditions will be held 5:30- 8:30 Monday April 8 and Tuesday April 9th.
Dance auditions and call backs are 5:30 -8:30 Wednesday April 10 and Thursday April 11. We will make phone calls Friday the 12th to offer roles and the Cast List will be posted Saturday the 13th. Monday the 15th is orientation, meeting with parents, read through of script, and registration due.

The Rehearsal Schedule is listed below. It is imperative that you bring to auditions a list of all scheduling conflicts between Monday April 15th and Sunday June 16th. You are only permitted to miss 2 rehearsals and no absences during final tech week.

REHEARSAL SCHEDULE:

The mandatory rehearsals will be Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. 

Wednesday, Friday and/or any possible weekend rehearsals would be scheduled as a TBA only for specific actors called (principle roles and features).”

When rehearsals begin, Cast will be given a detailed breakdown that explains who is needed on which days based on the role they are in.

Cast is allowed to miss two rehearsals only and cannot miss any rehearsals after May 22nd

In an effort to keep distractions to a minimum, parents are not permitted to wait in the room rehearsals are taking place. We encourage parents to spend rehearsal time helping with costumes, props, sets, paint scenery, and other tasks to assist the production.

WHAT TO PREPARE:

Please prepare a monologue lasting no longer than 60 seconds. (see suggestions below under AUDITION TIPS)

Prepare a song (32 bars of music is preferred for the general audition schedule). This selection of your song should be performed in the style of musical theatre, and should last about 1 to 2 minutes. Bring your music on a CD, or you may sing along to an iPod, iPhone or iPad (not amplified any louder than your device normally plays). Tracks without vocals are preferred. Also, an accompanist will be provided for those who bring sheet music.

Practice the monologue and song repeatedly until you feel comfortable performing them. Speak clearly and loud enough, to everyone… even as soon as you enter the building to check-in.

  • Don’t be late.
  • Follow directions.
  • Smile.
  • Have an open mind.
  • No gum, eating or drinking during the audition.
  • Relax and breathe before, during and after the audition.
  • Turn your phone off or turn the ‘Airplane mode’ setting on.
  • If you make a mistake, keep going.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask questions.

Wear the correct clothing and footwear for the auditions, especially dance calls. Dance shoes or sneakers are recommended, along with clothes that you feel no restriction from. Singers and actors who have no dance experience as well as trained dancers are considered for all appropriate roles in the cast. Several auditionees will be grouped together to learn a short dance routine. DON’T WORRY if you have never taken a dance class before, we just want to see how well you move to music and learn choreography.  Some people may be asked to return on Wednesday the 10th or Thursday 11th and dance.

Keep in mind, everyone in that audition room, as well as the entire theater community, wants you to have fun!

COST:

A $40.00 registration fee for all cast and junior directors is due at the first rehearsal to cover a portion of the cost of sets, props, costumes and marketing.

To attend the performances, we have reserved seating with a suggested donation of $8.00 for children and $12.00 for adults.  Each performer and production staff shall receive two complimentary tickets.  Please see the Volunteer counter for details on how Volunteers and parents may receive additional tickets.
 
For costumes, depending on the style of the show, we may ask actors to provide certain pieces of clothing that they most likely already have such as blue jeans, T-shirt, long sleeve white shirt, black pants, coat, shoes, etc.

PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT:

There are many ways for you to volunteer and connect with your teen or child. 
 
We will ask for Parents to lead up committees such as Costumes, Props, Backstage, Scenery, Lighting, Dressing Rooms, Concessions, Cast Party and others.  If you do not feel comfortable leading the committee, we ask you to please consider helping by donating your time to be a part of these committees.   We invite you to learn new skills and share your talent.
 
In order to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for everyone, all adults over the age of 18 must have a background check.  A Creative Theater Board Member will gather information from you and will then run the Background Check at the Theater’s expense.  This is the same procedure required in the Sevier County School District for all parents who volunteer to help at school or go on field trips.

We strive to be respectful of everyone’s time. At rehearsals, we practice specific scenes and you will only be needed if you are in the scenes taught that day.

A detailed rehearsal schedule will be given to each cast member with a specific breakdown of who is needed each rehearsal. Every cast member may not be required to attend every rehearsal, however, it is crucial to the success of the rehearsal process that everyone attends on required days.

Participants may not miss more than two rehearsals or will be removed from the production. The final week of rehearsals (called Tech Week) we will rehearse each day Monday through the opening show.

Kate Laciak

After attending Marymount Manhattan College and the Actors and Singers Academy at Carnegie Hall, Kate combined extensive training with her passion for the performing arts and began a career embracing every element of the stage. Credits include Swing!, Lucky Stiff, Tuxedo Junction, Damn Yankees, Smokey Joe’s Cafe’, Cabaret, Anything Goes, Funny Girl, The Fantasticks, Bye Bye Birdie, The Who’s Tommy, Crazy For You, Chicago, West Side Story, The Pirates of Penzance, Sweet Charity, Follies, Mame, Hello Dolly, Evita, and Jesus Christ Superstar. Children’s Theatre credits include The Frog Prince, Beauty and the Beast, Sleeping Beauty, You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, Heidi and Schoolhouse Rock Live. Kate appears in national commercials, independent films, major motion pictures, music videos, TV shows and numerous Broadway revues. Direction/Choreography credits include Into the Woods, Swingtime, Romeo & Juliet Redefined, Nunsense, Bugsy Malone, Jr., She Loves Me, Schoolhouse Rock Live, Rock Around the Block, Little Shop of Horrors, Oliver!, Judy & Liza Together Again, Sleeping Beauty, The Villains’ Voice, Flashback to the 50’s and other theatrical productions. Kate has had the pleasure of working with Dolly Parton, Tommy Tune, Mia Michaels, Jack Lee and Paul Phillips.

Musical Director

Laura Weathersby 

Laura Weathersby has had a passion for music and theater since childhood.  She began singing and acting in her church at age 4 and was fortunate enough to continue music professionally from as a child, into adulthood.  Having performed nationally and internationally, on stage and screen, Laura completed her Masters of Music in vocal performance in 2007.  She moved to Tennessee in 2008 to become part of the Miracle Theater where she was seen in The Miracle Show, Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat, and Exalt Live!   In 2012 Laura took on her new favorite role in life as mommy to Ethan and Adam.  Since recently moving back to Sevierville from Orlando, FL, where she developed “Music Moments”, an early childhood music education program, Laura also has a private studio teaching both voice and piano.  She and her husband Jonathan share a passion for growing the theater arts and music education in Sevier County.

REGISTRATION PROCESS:

To receive an audition slot, we ask for you to register for a time slot that works for you. Arrive 20 minutes early before your scheduled time. If you are only available to audition at a certain day or time on Monday, April 8th or Tuesday April 9th and that day/time is already full, please call or text our Casting Director at 865-851-1147 and she will find a way to get you in the schedule. We will find a way to make sure everyone has an equal amount of time to be seen by the Audition Team.

Upon arrival you will fill out an information sheet. Please bring a list of ALL of your conflicts between now and June 16th.  Unless special permission is given by the Director, cast cannot miss more than two rehearsals. No rehearsals can be missed Tech Week.

We will then take a photograph of you so the Casting team can remember your fantastic audition.

You will then be taken into a private room away from the other auditionees and present your monologue and sing your song for the Production Team. There may be several Directors in the room to cheer you on.
You will be assigned a time to return the following day Wednesday the 10th for a dance/movement audition. Several auditionees will be grouped together to learn a bit of movement. DON’T WORRY if you have never taken a dance class before, we just want to see how you move and follow direction. 

Some people will then be asked to return Thursday the 11th for Call Backs. The Casting Team may want to see you do your audition one more time or ask you a few questions. If you are not asked to return for call backs that does not automatically mean you will not be offered a role in the show.

If you are not offered a role Friday or Saturday, that does not mean you were not good enough or did anything wrong. Sometimes the Director just didn’t get a chance to see all your talent in one short audition. We encourage you to consider enrolling in the Creative Arts Academy and learn more about theater in acting classes, improve classes and participate in fun workshops.
