SEEKING:

This cast will be comprised of 9 Principal Performers and 10 or more Ensemble Performers ages 14 to Adult.  Ensemble Members will be assigned an understudy role to learn.

We welcome first time performers and experienced performers. We understand not everyone can sing or dance, we accept all skill levels and work with those who are offered roles to find a way to make you comfortable and shine on stage.

If you don’t want to be on stage but still would like to be involved, we have roles you can participate in backstage or with lights and sound.

ROLLS TO BE FILLED:

All Auditionees will be given equal consideration. No roles have been pre-cast. No special treatment shall be given to those who have been in previous shows at Creative Theater or Walters State Community College.

Seymour Krelborn -An insecure, put-upon florist’s clerk and eventual hero. He is a genuine, well-meaning man who is taken for granted because of his clumsy ways and poor social skills. Male, Tenor (A2-G4)

Audrey – Squeaky voice, Bleached-blond, Billie-Dawn-like, secret love of Seymour’s life. She has poor self-worth and education, but incredibly good looks and a sweet and vulnerable demeanor. Female, Mezzo-Soprano (G#3-D5)

Mr. Mushnik – The seasoned owner of the failing East Side flower shop and Seymour’s nosy boss. He is profit-driven, greedy, and manipulative. Male, Baritone (G2-F4)

Orin Scrivello – An egotistical dentist with a passion for leather and sadistic tendencies. Audrey’s abusive boyfriend, who is targeted by Seymour. Male, Baritone (G2-G4)

Voice Of The Plant – An actor/vocalist located offstage. The voice is that of a conniving, street-smart ‘villain.’ A funky Rhythm and Blues voice is best.  Male, Baritone (G2-G4)

Crystal – Crystal, Ronnette and Chiffon are Doo-wop type street urchins, acting as the occasional Greek Chorus. Young, hip, and smart, these girls are the only ones who have a grip on reality. Dance as a trio frequently. Female, Mezzo-Soprano (Ab3-F5)

Ronnette – Crystal, Ronnette and Chiffon are Doo-wop type street urchins, acting as the occasional Greek Chorus. Young, hip, and smart, these girls are the only ones who have a grip on reality. Dance as a trio frequently. Female, Mezzo-Soprano (Ab3-F5)

Chiffon – Crystal, Ronnette and Chiffon are Doo-wop type street urchins, acting as the occasional Greek Chorus. Young, hip, and smart, these girls are the only ones who have a grip on reality. Dance as a trio frequently. Female, Mezzo-Soprano (Ab3-F5)

The Plant (Audrey II) – Not a speaking or singing role, but controls the Puppets. An anthropomorphic cross between a Venus flytrap and an avocado, the plant has an appetite for human flesh that is appeased by Seymour. Puppeteer doubles as other sizes of the plant.

Ensemble (10+): Ensemble will fill other roles:

Announcer, Wino #1, Wino #2, Customers, Interviewer, Screaming Patient, Agent, Martin, Snip, Mrs. Luce, bums, etc.

In order to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for everyone, all adults over the age of 18 must have a background check.  A Creative Theater Board Member will gather information from you and will then run the Background Check at the Theater’s expense.  This is the same procedure required in the Sevier County School District for all parents who volunteer to help at school or go on field trips.

Please review the Rehearsal Schedule for conflicts. Please bring a list of ALL conflicts with you to auditions.

Theater is an Ensemble art and when one person misses a rehearsal, the entire scene suffers. Therefore we allow only two rehearsals to be missed if we know about the dates at auditions. This show will use Understudies to advance into a role should the Principal miss rehearsals.

Additionally, no rehearsals can be missed after October 10th.

WHAT TO PREPARE:

All those auditioning shall be prepared with the following:

Headshot – if have one already. If not, we will photograph you.

Resume – if have one already. If not, we have an application for you to fill out.

Prepare a short comedic monologue.  You may be asked to cold read from the show as well.

Present a song in the style of the show (32 bars of music / a verse and a chorus).  This can include doo wop, character pieces, etc. Accompaniment may be on a CD or you may sing along to an IPod, iPhone or iPad. Tracks must be without vocals. An accompanist is available at the auditions both nights as an option if you would like to bring sheet music. No a cappella auditions.

Auditioners should be prepared to discuss any dance or movement experience they have, and may be asked to move through basic dance techniques during the audition.

COST:

For those who are not a student of Walters State Community College, a $40.00 registration fee for all cast and junior directors is due at the first rehearsal to cover a portion of the cost of sets, props, costumes and marketing.  Walters State Community College students will have their fee covered by the college.

To attend the performances, we have reserved seating with a suggested donation of $9.00 for children and $13.00 for adults.

For costumes, depending on the style of the show, we may ask actors to provide certain pieces of clothing that they most likely already have such as blue jeans, T-shirt, long sleeve white shirt, black pants, coat, shoes, etc.

FRIENDS OR PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT:

There are many ways for you to volunteer and contribute at the theater.

We will ask for Parents and Friends to lead up committees such as Costumes, Props, Backstage, Scenery, Lighting, Dressing Rooms, Concessions, Cast Party and others.  If you do not feel comfortable leading the committee, we ask you to please consider helping by donating your time to be a part of these committees.   We invite you to learn new skills and share your talent.

We strive to be respectful of everyone’s time. At rehearsals, we practice specific scenes and you will only be needed if you are in the scenes taught that day.

A detailed rehearsal schedule will be given to each cast member with a specific breakdown of who is needed each rehearsal. Every cast member may not be required to attend every rehearsal, however, it is crucial to the success of the rehearsal process that everyone attends on required days.

We conduct Closed Rehearsals meaning friends and family are not allowed into the rehearsal space.

Participants may not miss more than two rehearsals or will be removed from the production. The final week of rehearsals (called Tech Week) we will rehearse each day through the opening show.
